Just a short post this week to introduce you to my blog and let you know what to expect from the page.
Firstly, a little about me. As you most likely read above, I am nineteen years old and from Ireland. Disney, dogs and Fall Out Boy are three of my most favourite things, with my all time favourite movie being The Lion King, and my favourite Disney princess being Cinderella. I have a five-year-old Jack Russell called Bruno, who is my best friend and I love to spoil him. In fact, he's currently lying on my bed beside me, on a patchwork blanket my Nana made for him. I even got him a bow tie for my parents' wedding in 2013, when he wasn't even going (obviously).
Here's a picture of him anyway, because y'know, any excuse to show him off.
The name of my blog came to me out of nowhere while washing dishes at work (the kitchen of a hotel restaurant), which is where a lot of spontaneous ideas seem to hit me. It made sense too, as some of you may know the iconic line from the beautiful, independent and badass Megara, from Disney's Hercules: "My friends call me Meg, at least they would if I had any friends."
I do have friends, but I still liked the line, my friends do call me Meg, and it's a line from a Disney movie, so it suited me perfectly!
As you may have gathered from my blogs short description, that in addition to Disney, another prominent topic of discussion in my posts will be autism. This is because I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when I was ten years old, so that was nine years ago last April. In that time I have learned a lot, about both myself and the autistic spectrum in general, so expect to hear my thoughts on a range of topics and issues in relation to autism.
I have numerous blog posts planned that I will be publishing in coming weeks, including a mini-series of fan theories surrounding various Disney movies. Some theories will be my own (example: Gaston wasn't that bad a guy), whereas in other posts I will be discussing theories I heard elsewhere (example: the trolls in Frozen were not as good-hearted as one might think).
In terms of posts on autism, two that you can expect to read very soon are two issues that have impacted on me personally and therefore have a strong opinion towards. The first will discuss unemployment in autistic adults, an ever-growing yet constantly ignored issue, while in the second I will share my thoughts on the recent news of a five-year-old autistic boy who was expelled from a primary school in Westmeath.
I hope my future blog posts interest you and you will enjoy my blog!
Until then, see you around, it's been a real slice!
Cant wait to read your future blogs and what knowledge you have to offer meg as im sure many others agree
